An opportunity to help others -- and yourself.

Volunteer opportunities are available in all programs at Episcopal Social Services.

The volunteer program is vital to the success of Episcopal Social Services, since volunteers perform many of the program services.

Volunteer Opportunities at Episcopal Social Services

Food Service Program
Work with a team of volunteers to prepare a nutritious meal including beverages using safe food handling practices.  Volunteers also collect lunch tickets, track the number of meals served, serve food and clean up after the completion of lunch.

Representative Payee
Volunteer weekly to manage and budget Social Security benefits for people whom Episcopal Social Services is the Representative Payee.  The Social Security Administration requires that some individuals drawing Social Security benefits must have a responsible person manage their benefits.

Employment Counselor
Assist clients looking for employment by working with them one on one, helping them create resumes, cover letters, e-mail accounts and printing.  Assisting in Internet job search.

Family Group Conferencing
Volunteers have a onetime face to face meeting between a juvenile offender and the victim, their families and other supportive individuals along with community members affected by the crime.  They all come together at the scene of the crime and share their stories of what happened and how the offense affected them.  A trained volunteer facilitator arranges and coordinates the meeting utlizing principles based on the Balanced and Restorative Justice Model.

Must be 21 years of age.  16 hours of training is mandatory.  All referrals are received from the office of the District Attorney,  Juvenile Diversion.  Cases involve various diversion eligible offenses by first time juvenile offenders.

All volunteers must submit to a KBI background check.

Time commitment: Case by case.

Teen Intervention Program Mentor - Wichita
ESS collaborates with the Juvenile Justice Authorities of Sedgwick County offering a prevention and intervention program for non-violent juvenile offenders. We need mentors to work in small groups with the teens.

Teen Intervention Program Mentor – El Dorado
ESS collaborates with the Juvenile Justice Authorities of Butler County offering a prevention and intervention program for non-violent juvenile offenders. Volunteer mentors work in small groups with the teens.

Teen Intervention Program Receptionist
Answer the phones from 6:30 – 8:45 p.m., assist in checking in youth. On orientation night, assist in recording program fee payment. Periodic follow-up calls on graduates from Teen Intervention Program.

Front Desk
Answer the incoming phone calls and assist individuals who visit ESS.

Intake Counselor
Interview clients and assess their needs. Explain programs/resources available through ESS and the community. Make referrals to our programs and other agencies as needed.
