 The Teen Intervention Program
Preventing Juvenile Crime and Generating Civic Responsibility

ESS offers intervention programs of 8 weeks for non-violent juvenile offenders.  Through our program, mentors work with adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18 to educate them on the consequences of their illegal behavior and how it impacts their families and the community.  Programs are provided on Monday and Thursday nights in Wichita between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

ESS has partnered  with Trinity Episcopal Church El Dorado and the Butler County Attorney's office to offer this successful program to citizens of Butler County.

The goals of the Teen Intervention Program are to:

bullet

Provide youth with more suitable decision making skills

bullet

Enable youth to assume responsibility for their role in delinquent behavior

bullet

Teach youth more effective communication skills

bullet

Help youth identify their positive characteristics

The program pairs like aged groups of at-risk youths with volunteer adult mentors.  The mentors work with each youth to achieve the goals of the program through a variety of curriculum that includes:

bullet

Written letter of apology to the victim (if applicable)

bullet

"What is it about school?" essay (for truancy referrals)

bullet

Presentations covering the Effects of Shoplifting to the Community, Understanding Anger and Stress Management

bullet

Weekly Decision Making Skills Sheets

bullet

Personal Values Exercises

bullet
