Breakthrough Club held its annual Independence Update fundraising breakfast on October 30, 2012 at Botanica. The theme of this year’s program was “Growing Together” in relationships, the community, recovery, wellness, and education. Members spoke at the event and were showcased in a video presentation about the ways in which they continue to “grow” through Breakthrough’s employment programs, educational assistance, emphasis on wellness, and through bonded friendships.
The event was a success! The room was filled with positive energy, emotions, and people buzzing about all of the good work that was accomplished this past year. Nearly 200 people were in attendance and we surpassed our goal of raising over $40,000!
“We are blown away and truly thankful for all of the generosity from our community supports,” said Jennifer Wise, new Director of Development for Episcopal Social Services/Breakthrough Club, who was coordinating the event for the first time. “We could not have beaten our goal without the important work done by our event volunteers, participants and of course, Breakthrough Club members.”

Want to learn more about Breakthrough Club and what we do? Attend a free, one-hour lunch, information session, and tour of Breakthrough Club. During this hour, you will be exposed to the programs, services, and activities that we provide to more than 1,500 young adults and adults in our community who suffer from mental illness. You also will hear some truly inspiring stories from our staff and members about the lives we've touched.
All Open Door luncheons take place from noon to 1 p.m. Due to the upcoming holidays and renovations of the building, Open Door luncheons will not be held again until January 2013.
